Board of Directors Election

As a Member it's YOUR right to vote.

Each year we invite all Members interested in making a personal difference at FirstOntario to run for election to our Board of Directors. Our election runs from November to March.

Nomination Period: November 1 to December 11, 2017
Voting Period: January 24 to March 12, 2018
Annual General Meeting: April 18, 2018

FirstOntario’s Annual General Meeting will be held at Carmen’s Banquet Centre, 1520 Stone Church Road East, Hamilton, Ontario L8W 3P9 on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at 7 p.m.

Elections 2017/2018

As a Member and Owner of FirstOntario Credit Union, you have a voice in how your credit union is run. Our annual Board of Directors election is your opportunity to support our continued success by choosing the fellow Members you feel will best fill important roles on your Board of Directors. Alternatively, if you are interested in making a personal difference at FirstOntario, then why not consider running for election to your Board of Directors?

This year, there are four vacancies on the Board to be filled. Any interested Members, including previous candidates, are strongly encouraged to run for election.

For 2017/2018, the skills and competencies identified by the Board as the focus for this election are:

  • IT Literacy
  • Financial Literacy
  • Governance
  • Strategic Planning
  • Risk Management

Please note: While these competencies are areas of expertise needed by your Board of Directors, they are not required in order to run for election to the Board.

The Nomination Period for this year begins at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 1 and runs until 5 p.m. on Monday, December 11, 2017. You can pick up a Nomination Package at any FirstOntario branch or you can click here to print your own copy.

Your nomination forms and all required attachments can be delivered in person at any FirstOntario branch, or sent by mail or courier to:

In the event of an interruption of mail service, nominations must be submitted by personal delivery.

IMPORTANT

Once again, we are offering information sessions to Members who are interested in running in this year’s Board election. These information sessions will provide potential candidates with background on the requirements to be on your Board of Directors, time commitments educational expectations and much more. This is also your opportunity to ask questions of existing Board members. Due to the importance of these information sessions, anyone interested in joining the Board MUST attend a session.

Information sessions will take place on:

November 7 at 9:30 a.m.
November 14 at 1:00 p.m.
December 4 at 1:00 p.m.

Information sessions will take place at:

Third Floor
970 South Service Road, Stoney Creek.

Information sessions will be followed by interviews with potential candidates on December 14 starting at 9:30 a.m. If you are interested in being a candidate, you MUST let us know which information session date you will be attending by contacting us at Elections@FirstOntario.com.

Voting

FirstOntario is very pleased to give our Members several ways to vote for your Board of Directors starting January 24, 2018.

  • Vote online through online banking
  • Vote through our mobile smartphone apps
  • Vote in your local FirstOntario branch
  • Vote with the ballot that is mailed to your home

Your Board of Directors highly recommends voting online in this election. Simply log into online banking and follow the prompts to cast your vote. If you do not have online banking, just call us at 1-800-616-8878 to be set up.

Voting through our mobile app for your smartphone is equally as easy. Just download the FirstOntario mobile banking app to start voting.

The other alternatives are to vote in your local FirstOntario branch or simply mail in your completed ballot once you receive it at your home. We will be mailing out ballots to our Members this year, along with a postage paid return envelope.

Annual General Meeting

Election winners will be announced at our Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, April 18, 2018. All FirstOntario Members are welcome.
